Time Perspective Network — April updates

What are we working on during April and some other news from the International Time Perspective Network

We have largely finalized the reviews of the submissions for our 3rd International Conference on Time Perspective: Celebrating Time to be held in August 2016 in Copenhagen.  – there are a few things still in progress due to the technical issues we have experienced. We hope that by now all who submitted a proposal have received the confirmation. We will really appreciate if the fees are paid by the end of April. Our budget is very modest and we rely on your contributions in order to proceed further.
We are in the process of developing the draft program. We aim to have it by the end of the month. In order to facilitate the process we invite everyone to register on Conferize platform – so that we can add everyone to the schedule: http://www.tpcph2016.com/schedule – you will receive an invitation. We decided to use this platform for a few reasons – it will allow for all the content of the event to stay long after the conference is over, which was not the case with the two previous events unfortunately. It will also ease the communication between the Network members, share the presentations and much more.

We are still looking for strategic partners and sponsors for our event in Copenhagen – please give us a had with this. We believe that we have developed a truly unique concept for our next meeting and we just need some extra financial help in order to fully realize our vision. We are working hard on securing additional funding here in Copenhagen – we have already applied for numerous foundations (public and private), but the first answers will come only in the end of May – June.

Participating in the Danish Research Festival

In the week 17, or from April 25 to May 1, there will be Danish Research Festival running across the country and this year I’ll be part of it!

The organizers say that “the festival programme has about 500 different events in more than 100 cities all over the country and every year more than 65,000 guests visit the festival.” It is ran every year and it is organized by Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

It seems like the main idea of the Festival is to bring science closer to general public. Sounds like fun! I’ll be exploring different events during the week and will keep you updated on my favorites from the proposed programme.

Psychology of time: Before, after and in-between

This talk aims to introduce you to the exciting topic of psychological time.

The different roles time plays in our everyday life, how it impacts what we do and how, how the tempo of a city has an impact of our health and how to find a temporal balance will be explored during the talk.

We will also talk about temporal aspects of groups and cultures and how those influence cross-cultural communication and sustainability issues.

This workshop is designed to serve as a window into a different reality, a few hours just for yourself, away from usual stress, uncertainties and routines. An opportunity to zoom out, to do something different or something long forgotten, but enjoyable and invigorating.

It is time to get together with your inner creative and a few other like minded people and do something fun and inspiring.

It is time to take a break, breathe, be with yourself and dissolve in your dreams and then continue with new energy and focus.

It is time to stop waiting for the muse, we’ll start without her, but she’ll join us anyway.

It is time to create and discover!

Last days at Prøvestenen – wanna be a model?

Dear friends,

there are always times that something comes to an end, but of course something else starts at the same time.
I invite you to visit me at my studio in Prøvestenen for the last time – we have to move out by April 1.

I’d be happy if you will help me to capture this special place in some series of images – and if you can also help me to pack and move some of the things – that would be great as well. But most importantly I just want to use the space for the fullest while it lasts. It offers really interesting backdrops and such. So if you ever dreamed to be a model – I would be really happy to work with you!

You’ll get to see a very special place in Copenhagen and you’ll get some bizzare photos taken at the same time.

Time Perspective Network is looking for a case

We are a bunch of scientists who study time, we know a whole lot about waiting time, user experience of time, time across cultures, sustainability behaviors, teams and groups, and how they evolve in time, the vision and future scenarios, we apply temporal research in strategic innovation , designing apps that help to cope with chronic diseases, preventing suicide – maybe you have a case for us to work on during our Conference in Copenhagen this August? ‪‬

We are in it together with local engineers, members of IDA – so it’s an interesting mix of people – psychologists and engineers and a bunch of artists as well! Please keep us busy!

Temporal Matters Salon

This has been an exciting collaboration so far – between me, representing the International Time Perspective Network and the Celebrating Time, 3rd International Conference on Time Perspective and Creative Roots: Collective Urbanism.

For most part, very outside my comfort zone, but that is why I ventured on this adventure – to explore where and how the psychological theories about time and urbanism issues intersect.

So far we held two Salons at the Cafe Ved Buen. One talk was dedicated to Pace of Life and the other one – to chronotope. The more I read about the chronotope, the more I was getting inspired by this concept and its possible applications outside the literary studies.

We are ready for your submissions

You can’t wait to present your ideas and work that you have been doing?
You can’t wait to show and tell what you know about time to other people?
You can’t wait to sparkle a controversial and inspiring debate?
You can’t wait to redesign subjective (or objective) experience of time?
You can’t wait to present your performance, theater play or sculpture that explores the concept of time?

We’ve got you covered! No need to wait any longer – the submission is open!

If you’re an academic and submitting a classical presentation, you know the drill – basic info about the authors, affiliation, contact info you wish to share (email, twitter, linkedin, etc.) and 350 words as an abstract.

If you’re ready for an adventure and want to explore what else can be done with your research results (if you are an academic) or you have an idea for a specific activity – please describe it to the best of your abilities on 1 page max. See the guidelines on specific forms of participation.

The Organizing Committee together with the Scientific Committee reserves the right to propose and allocate you a different format for participation. In such a case you’ll get a proper brief.

Learn Do Share – Copenhagen 2015

I’m happy to be part of the Lear Do Share event in Copenhagen this year. It is organized by Creative Roots: Collective Urbanism. You can find more information about the event here. It lasts three days: from August 27 to August 29 with the overall theme of Smart Citizens.

Julien Daniel and I are going to lead a workshop on the Day 2: Co.Creative Tactical Day on Social Dilemmas and Smart Citizens.

Join us on August 28 at 15.00 and let’s explore together the following issues:

How do we manage limited resources? Why do we often irrationally act based on our self-interests although it may threaten the long-term survival of the whole group? Why don’t we behave sustainable or environmentally responsible? How do the personal attitudes towards time play a role in this? How to promote cooperation among different stakeholders?
We are going to explore these questions in a role-play game during the workshop and hopefully collaboratively discover some answers to them.

3rd International Conference on Time Perspective | 1st Announcement

Do you have an exciting new breakthrough that you would like to share on an international platform? It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 3rd International Conference on Time Perspective!

When: 15-19 August 2016
Where: Copenhagen, Denmark

International Time Perspective Network has been around for 7 years with more than 250 specialists from 40+ different countries affiliated with the Network, this is your chance to add your voice to a large conversation benefiting the greater good!

We dedicate this event to celebration of the concept of time, be it even a persisting illusion. We would like to invite you on this journey with us – to explore the nature of time, to get inspiration and to inspire in return.

We have a great line-up of speakers, who will cover many diverse aspects of the concept of time: psychologists, physicists, futurists, philosophers, designers, innovations consultants and even a science comedian!

In addition to the key-note presentations, the conference will host a number of parallel sessions in variety of formats. Thus we invite submissions on topics that touch upon the exploration the concept of time and time perspective.

As a reference point we include the following key-word cloud:
time, temporality, time perspective (past, present, future, balanced, unbalanced, etc), temporal horizon, past, present, future, life-space, time zone, temporal frame, image of the future, future scenarios, planning (organizational, career, etc.), time management, sense of time, understanding of time, tempo, rhythm, time perception, time attitude, future anxiety, transcendental future, eudaimonic present, presence, sustaining time, experience of time, innovation, well-being, etc.

However, your submissions should not be limited to them. We include those as a starting point.

We welcome contributions in a variety of formats: Idea Labs, workshops, art installation (music, sculptures, visual arts, performances, movie screening with a follow-up debate, work / project groups, presentations, discussion tables / brainstorm groups, debates (can be in the tag team format / polarized opinions format / etc. ), live research experiments, and others.

Your submissions should be in line with the overall vision and goals for the Conference:
We would like it to be fun, engaging, interactive, cross-disciplinary and frame shifting event. We think that the time has come to reinvent the format of the conferences.
We would like it to be a forum, where researchers / academics, entrepreneurs, business people, policy makers and general public meet. We would like it to be a platform where people could put together their competencies and work on finding a solution for a particular problem together. We would like to start a dialogue on different levels.

The Conference in Copenhagen aims to:

  • create dialogue across the disciplines and approaches to time and temporality
  • create a space / platform where academia, innovators, entrepreneurs, policy makers, business people and general public meet
  • create inspiring environment where different real-life challenges can find their solutions
  • apply TP theory to solving real-life problems
  • try out different forms of presentations: more engaging, fun, inspiring beyond the content, aimed to be with and for society
  • live up to our motto: “Diversity of Approaches, Unity of Passion” – to think and act across the disciplines

The organizing committee will mainly concentrate on curating three directions of the Conference: innovation, sustainability and well-being. Feel free to propose activities in other directions!

we have now quite an active group of people who are working on making Copenhagen 2016 happen.

besides the actual input from people, we really need some financial assistance in order to make it happen. thus we would like to extend our request to you – maybe you have a way to send some financial support for this event? we have Nicolas, as our one and only supporter so far – Nicolas’ lab is really dedicated to the TP network and has been supporting both the first conference in Coimbra and the second one in Warsaw. maybe your lab / department / company you’re working for can help us out as well?

the concept for the event is still taking shape, but what I can say for sure right now – it will be different, it will be exciting, it will be extremely inspiring and it will be across many different domains.
